Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today. No wind as of 9:00am.  The Tongariro is clear and fishable.

The wind seems to have abated a bit over the last day or so.  Last night was probably one of the calmest we have had for quite sometime.

I heard a few Cicadas when I went home for lunch yesterday.  A few more hot sunny days with a bit more rain should see these start to move.

The evening rises in the river have been quite good over the last few nights.  More anglers are reporting “Subway Fish” at the moment …. ones that are 6 inches or a foot long.  Some well recovered rainbows in amongst them.  A few more browns are getting spotted by anglers. They will be moving into positions to feed on the “Subway Fish”.

Still great reports from the boating anglers out on lake Taupo.  No one seems to be grumpy or complaining there is “nothing out there”.  Basically every boat angler I have spoken to have been really happy and they seem to be catching fish no trouble.

The following email and pictures were sent in overnight thanks to Jamie Campbell.  Jamie writes:

Hi Jared,

Had another crack at an evening session last night….was magic and so much activity. No monsters caught but great fun – highly recommended.

Cheers Jamie
