Highly Fishable

Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi.  The morning temperatures have taken a dive !  Starting to get quite nippy in the morning now. No wind as of 9:00am.  The Tongariro is flowing at about 23.4 cumecs and is highly fishable.

John our boating expert was out on Lake Taupo the other day and released 10 and came home with 5 rainbows. He says an early start is ideal.  He was home by 9:15am.  He is a fan of using a downrigger.  About 90-120 feet is the depths that he has been targeting.

Now that most people are back at work, the boating reports have dried up somewhat.  It is a shame now that people are back at work while we have ideal weather for getting out and about on the Lake at present.  A few 6-7lb rainbows reported caught over the last week or two.

Lake “O” sounded atrocious the other day with the wind and before that ” way to hot “to sit in a boat and fish.  Most anglers have been taking out Red Pheasant Tails and articulated damsels or small damsel patterns which have been the flavour in favour.

River mouths reported as ok but still a mixture of quality of fish reported getting caught from some really nice fish to some a little on the lean side.

Still plenty of browns in the big river ( Tongariro ).  A few anglers are heading this way to target them.  The odd murmurs of evening rise activity.  Quiet on the Cicada front.  The Recreational Release tomorrow should give things a bit of a shake up.  Should be good to get some volume and colour to the river.
