Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today.  Quite a blustery wind blowing here in Turangi today. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.

We seem to be getting quite a bit of wind here in Turangi at the moment.  The last week or two has seen a fair bit of wind.  Generally the mornings are quite calm but the wind picks up mid morning to be quite blustery and strong.  This makes it a little tricky for anglers to get casts to where they want them to go.

Numbers of anglers have tapered off quite a lot now and those that I have spoken to have generally been enjoying the river to themselves.  I really enjoy this time of the year when this happens.   You can pretty much fish anywhere you want and if you are lucky will only see one or two other anglers all day.  The Tongariro is still chokka full of fish …. if you don’t believe me then you should see the evening rises and see all the fish that you couldn’t catch during the day 😉  What I would call fairly normal for this time of the year.

A report from an angler on Monday who had spotted a Green Beetle.  We should start to see more of these over the next few weeks.  We are due for a Bumper Crop of these this year … as I have said over the years they generally hatch each year but some years are quieter than others and other years you get a mega hatch.  The fish do like feeding on these.

Anglers are still reporting seeing bigger Mayflies hatching.
