Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today. The morning is a little chilly. No wind as of 9:00am.
The Tongariro is due the Recreational Release today. The flow should get up to about 45-55 cumecs. It is on its way into town !
I went down to the river at 12 noon and took the following pictures. The level hasn’t come up too high but there is a little bit of colour to it. This colour is nothing drastic and should help anglers secure those wily browns that were avoiding them while the water was clear.
(Below) Looking downstream from the S.H.1 road bridge. As you can see hardly any change to the level of the river. This could be a different story if it had been raining prior to the release.
(Below) The water has some colour to it but nothing I wouldn’t fish.
(Below) One angler fishing just upstream of the road bridge at lunchtime today. A perfect day for fishing.
(Below) The colour of the water in the deeper part of the river. Still not chocolate brown. Still ideal for nymphing or wetlining.
