Highly Fishable

Overcast start to the day here in Turangi today. No wind as of 9:00am this morning. The Tongariro is highly fishable today flowing at about 30 cumecs.

A mixture of reports through yesterday …….. some anglers thinking too dirty and other anglers landing some good solid fresh run fish.  Adapting to the conditions is the key here.

Nymphers were preferring the flavour of glo bugs yesterday, while the wetliners were after woolly buggers.  Ideal conditions to catch fish in.

There were anglers everywhere in the shop here. It was crazy !!!  There almost seems to be a re-newed passion for fly fishing.  With the limited travel we can do now as a country, Turangi is an easy destination to get to for most living in the North Island and when you actually think of the cost of $99 for a whole season fishing licence to be able to fish for 19 hours a day for 365 days a year ( works out to 27.1 cents per day) the cost of this licence is negligible.  Add a Family Whole Season Licence into the mix currently at $149 then it becomes a very affordable Family Activity.

A reminder that new Season Fishing Licences for the Taupo Fishery start on the 1st of July, so only a few more weeks to go and you can “hook” into one of these.

(Below) Are these the ones Snell ?
