Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today. No rain or wind as of 8:30am. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.
Wow !! This is a stunning Spring Day here in Turangi today. Just awesome after the wet year that we have had. Nice and crisp start to the day with a bit of warmth in the sun. Not a whisper of a breeze. This type of weather should really get the Mayflies moving now.
Today would be a day to get out and explore the river and enjoy the scenery. The good thing with this sort of a day is you should be able to spot fish.
Don’t forget that Lake Otamangakau opens on the 1st October. Also a reminder that the upper reaches of the fishable rivers open in the Taupo Fishing District on 1st December ( not the 1st October like the rest of the country ).

(Above) Six anglers fishing under the S.H.1 road bridge this morning. The beauty of this pool as I used to say is it is the ” Bermuda Triangle of Anglers ” . For those who like to fish by themselves this pool is a great pool that sucks anglers into it and leaves basically the rest of the river for you to enjoy and fish.

(Below) Some great looking wetlining / skagit water that no anglers are taking advantage of.

(Below) Three anglers fishing the ” Old Bridge Pool ” . Just look at that blue sky !
Any volunteers want to work for me today ?? Go on … pretty please with a Cherry on the Top ??
The nymphing should pick up in these conditions using Naturals. Also if you see the odd fish rising it might be time to start swinging a Wee Wet !
