A fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today.  Light wind to begin the day with .  As of 8:45am the leaves on the trees are just gently fluttering in the light breeze.  This may pick up mid to late morning.

This calm day will be a bonus for the boaties and the fly casters.  One angler braved fishing the river yesterday in the howling wind. It was one of those days where you needed to cast 180 degrees from where you actually wanted your fly to land!!!  The only thing good thing you could have done yesterday was give up fishing and take up kite flying.

A few reports in from the Tauranga-Taupo yesterday …. quietish in terms of fish numbers.  I have been telling anglers to stick to the Tongariro River as this has got a good fish population in it still. Some good strong fish still out there that have dealt to a few anglers.

A reminder that the upper reaches of all fishable rivers open on the 1st of December. It might pay to book in for a raft trip with one of the local companies to fish the Upper Tongariro river when this opens up.

The weather has been up and down … all over the show really … one minute shorts and tee shirt weather, next thing full on Winter attire …. so be prepared for any conditions.  A few anglers have been getting sunburnt …. most likely office workers or shift workers doing the graveyard shift who haven’t seen the sunshine for a while 😉 Also if they haven’t turned red from the sun, they have been turned red from the wind burn !
