Overcast start to the day here in Turangi today. We had a bit of rain overnight but nothing too serious. There is a bit of blue sky trying to poke through. No wind as of 8:45am. The Tongariro is flowing at 22.9 cumecs and is fishable.
School Holidays are underway and a few parents and kids have turned up. It is good to see the youngsters keen on getting out for a fish. Something that people often overlook here in New Zealand is the fact that it is quite cheap and easy to get the kids into fishing. A Whole Season Child’s Taupo Fishing Licence only costs $12.50. Also, a Taupo District Family Season Licence only costs $149 so if you get it at the start of the season and plan to use it a lot over the following year it works out to be pretty cheap entertainment.
The other thing, especially for the Taupo Fishery is the access to water. The Tongariro has fantastic walking and access tracks and it is easy. The only “Major Barrier” to going fishing is the mental one …. the thought that you need to work less and fish more should spring into your mind 😉
(Above) This is looking upstream from the Admirals Pool carpark at about 1:00pm today. The weather has fined up but the wind has also picked up …. couldn’t see anyone fishing around here.
(Below) Looking downstream from the Admirals Pool carpark at lunchtime today. The water was a bit too murky and swirly in the deeper parts to see if there were any fish lurking around in here.
