Freezing cold start to the day here in Turangi today. A good frost to start the day and then a misty fog rolled in ! No wind as of 9:00am. All rivers are clear and fishable.
Well, gone are the days of getting out at the Crack of Dawn for a fish for me …. those Keen / Mad enough will really notice the bite to the air with these frosts !! That’s why these days I prefer to sleep in and miss the frost lifting, have a leisurely breakfast, then head out on the water about 10:00am in the morning until about 2pm in the afternoon …. I still catch plenty of fish but miss the crippling cold.
A few murmers from some anglers starting to suggest the fishing getting a little tough ( others are still having a ball ). Some rain would be good at this stage but with the rain, the nice sunny days disappear ! Fish should run on the next good lot of rain we get but I have seen fish running in cold, clear conditions with no rain in sight and they were moving up the river as quick as they could go.
I drove up to Taupo yesterday and called into a couple of the mouths on the way back … no rod with me just the camera …
(Above) The Hinemaiaia River mouth at about 3:00pm yesterday ! Wow, not a puff of wind. It was just stunning.
(Below) I called in to have a look at the Tauranga-Taupo River mouth on my way back home to Turangi. The lake was flat and calm. What a cracker Autumn day.
(Below) While I was there two anglers turned up to the mouth to have a fish. Not much of a rip at the TT but still worth a fish.
(Below) This is looking upstream of the Tauranga Taupo River from the carpark turnaround. Check out the reflection !
(Below) Not much of a flow in the estuary bit of the Tauranga Taupo River at the moment. Very, very slow flow.
(Below) Looking downstream from the carpark to the mouth !
(Below) Looking West towards Whareroa with the sun sneaking through the old Willow tree at the carpark turnaround at the mouth of the Tauranga Taupo River. Don’t we live in a wonderful part of the World ??
