Overcast but fine here in Turangi. No rain or wind as of 9:00am. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.
Most anglers in the shop have been catching something over the last few days, however there are still anglers who are not. These anglers are most likely doing the same old, same old and not keeping up with what is going on with the fish and environment wise.
Anglers that are nymphingare taking out natural nymphs such as Caddis, Hare and Coppers and Pheasant tails. Andrew reported quite a good rise late in the evening yesterday. He reported thehatch as Mayflies.
Andrew and I have come up with some of the things that the anglers who are not catching anything are most likely doing:
1. Not covering plenty of ground or trying new types of water
2. Not adjusting their leader lengths for where they are fishing
3. Incorrect drifting and mending or your line
4. Not adjusting weights of flies for where they are fishing
5. Not identifying what the fish may be feeding on
6. Not changing their flies to try something different
7. Not using the best method of fishing for where they are fishing ie wetline / skagit / dry dropper / nymphing / CZ nymphing
8. Being drawn to pools full of anglers thinking that is where the best fishing is. If a pool has no anglers in it then never assume there are no fish there 😉
