Fine and sunny start to the day here Turangi today.  No wind as of 9:00am.  Over the last few days this has picked up mid to late morning. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.

Getting some good reports from the Tongariro from the wetliners.  Most saying not a lot of fish at this stage but they are getting some quite nice ones.

An angler was in the shop yesterday to pick up some jigging rigs and he said the fish were just smashing the wriggle tail smelt soft bait flies. Also remember if you see fish splashing and feeding on the surface then don’t go past the harling method of boat fishing.

Some of the river mouths have been reporting some good success.  The Lake level is quite low now and it should be easier to access the drop offs.

(Above & Below)  I received these photos and email yesterday thanks to Jason Bleibtreu of River Birches.  Jason writes:

Sporting Life,

Here is a fresh rainbow. I caught it at a local river mouth. Thanks for putting me onto the correct fly to use. The picture below the fillets are ready for the smoker.

Regards, Jason
