Overcast and calm start to the day here in Turangi this morning. Almost feels like light drizzle. The Tongariro is clear and fishable and flowing at 24 cumecs.
Still a ton of fish in the river to be caught by those who are wanting to go and catch them . Some good sized rainbow jacks have been caught over the last week. Still the odd reports of nice fresh fish being reported caught. More fish are being reported rising just on dark. If the weather plays ball then this activity should continue as we head deeper into the Spring.
Don’t forget that the School Holidays start this weekend. Get in for a fish this week if you can. Also just remember that Lakes Otamangakau and Kuratau open on 1st October. You may spin fish these two lakes as well as fly fish them . Just remember that if you wish to spin fish in the Taupo Fishery then you are only permitted to use single hook lures, no bait and no scented lures.
(Above) Neil was out and about from this morning and took this photo looking upstream from the Red Hut Bridge.
(Below) Looking downstream from the Red Hut Bridge before work this morning. Neil said
” River clear and only one vehicle in carpark….I bet it wouldn’t be like that tomorrow morning??? “
(Below) The Boss was out and about yesterday and went down to the Hinemaiaia River mouth to check it out …. How come he gets a day off with no wind and near perfect mirror conditions ?? If I would go to have a look there would be waves a meter high rolling in !!!
(Above & Below) These two pictures were sent in by Dick Le Fort. Dick was fishing the Tongariro River and writes:
” Hi Guys. It appears my new single handed spey line works very well. Thanks to everyone for their help and advice! Cheers Dick “
