🎄Only Three Sleeps Until Christmas ! 🎄
It’s a beautifully sunny day here in Turangi! The Tongariro river, Lake Taupo and surrounding Central Plateau lakes are fishing well and there’s no better time to get out with the recovering rainbows rising to dries and the fresh brown trout heading up river, and with the lakes being full of well conditioned fish it provides a variety of options. The fish in Lake Taupo are packing on some serious size and condition, and with the number and size of the smelt which they are feeding on it’s a no brainer. We have a variety of smelt patterns from Pat Swift, Fly Tackle NZ and our shop tyer Tim McCarthy so come on in and check them out. I recently went for a free dive in the lake and was amazed to see the number of smelt, bullies and koura ranging at depths from 1m-15m (which was as far as I could dive down before the ears started to ache 😁) plenty of koura in between and beneath rocks, bullies along the sandy bottom and bands of smelt to be seen. So there’s a variety of food for the trout to choose from, and to achieve the best results in your boat fishing it helps to have a range of lures which Sporting Life Turangi provides.
Maurice and Karen had a great time on the Tongariro river recently
As you can see the browns are certainly here in the Tongariro river! If this is what you’re after come in and talk to a member of the Sporting Life Turangi team and we shall offer any information and advise to maximise your time.
