Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi this morning. A light-ish breeze blowing as of 9:00am but this may increase as the day goes on.  The Tongariro is clear and fishable.

Wow !! Has it been blowing…… I’m pretty sure most anglers are getting sick of the wind that we have been having.  It has fair been blowing !!  Not easy for fly casting and not pleasant for the boaties.

We got smashed here in the shop going into the weekend.  About 100 anglers turned up from Wanganui … and around thereabouts. Most were fishing out on Lake Taupo from a boat with a few that hit the rivers. Seems like bronze coloured lures were the go.  Last week anglers were preferring Green and Gold / Green Lightening Bolt and Pinks.

A report in this morning that an angler got a nice fresh silver fish up at the Tauranga-Taupo River.  Still a few nice silver ones sneaking through the rivers ( this is not uncommon for this time of the year ).  The fish will be into feeding mode now at this time of the year.  We’ve had some anglers over the last few weeks who smashed it in the river over the Winter but are now struggling to catch a fish at this time of the year.  I find this time of the year fairly easy as the fish are feeding.  They may also hold in different spots and the fish that hug the bottom in the Winter may be ” looking up ” for their food.
