Overcast …… no rain as of 8:30am.  Seems to be a lazy cool S / SE wind blowing through the mall in front of the shop today. The Tongariro is highly fishable.

Just the latest up-date on the Recreational Releases for the Tongariro River.

Kia ora,

Following the cancellation of the April Tongariro recreational releases during the lockdown, replacement releases have been scheduled for mid-July.  Genesis will be releasing water into the Tongariro River on:

  • Saturday 11th July from Poutu Intake
  • Sunday 12th July from Rangipo Dam

These releases will be the second of three recreational release weekends this year.  The remaining release on the Tongariro is scheduled for 12th and 13th September.

Don’t forget your new season Taupo Fishing Licence is due to start 1 July.  These can now be purchased online in the comfort of your own home at the following address.  Just remember that they DO NOT START until 1 July.

A report from Tuesday thanks to Jamie Campbell.  Jamie writes:

Hi Guys,

Managed to get a little fishing in this afternoon.

Peter, your selection worked well with my sinking line 🙂 …..this was on the Green Woolly.

Neil, managed another brown with a green caddis (back to floating line) that was in better condition.

Jared, the knots you showed me a while back are still working a treat…..none lost today so thanks for spending the time to teach.

Thought I’d send these through with a photo……am still no star fisherman but happy that my strike rate is improving.

As always – thanks for all your help and advice and I’ll keep trying to sponge it all up.

Regards Jamie Campbell

(Above & Below) Some cracker looking fish caught ….. and landed by Jamie. Anglers have reported how fat the fish are this year and seem really pleased with the quality.
