High cloud above Turangi this morning but blue sky everywhere else. A light frost to start the day today. The temperature dropped to 0 degrees celcius at about 9:30pm last night. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.
We had quite a few anglers turn up in Turangi yesterday….. there seems to be no let-up in anglers heading this way to fish. Anglers have had fantastic fishing over the last few weeks. Still very busy out and about. A good mixture of those wetlining and nymphing with fish getting caught pretty much by every method.
Seems to be mostly rainbows caught with few browns being reported hooked. Some very good solid rainbows reported caught.
Some sunshine is a bonus at the moment …. things will change a wee bit in the fishing if we will get a long sunny spell and the water clears up to gin clear ….. we will see if the catch rates go down 😉
If you are here for a week, possibly look at exploring some of the other rivers during this time. There is the Waitahanui, Hinemaiaia, Tauranga-Taupo, Waimarino and Waiotaka Rivers. Don’t forget to look at the mouths as well if you don’t want to walk too far. If you are unsure of how to fish the mouths, call into us here at Sporting Life and we can point you in the right direction. Fishing some of these other rivers will help spread some of the pressure about.
