Fine and sunny start to the morning here in Turangi this morning. No wind as of 9:00am. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.
Fish reported rising to the Passion Vine Hopper in the Tongariro. A few fish getting caught using these after a little bit of perseverance. There seem to be a heap more on most things I see at them moment, however not quite in the record numbers we experienced last year. Anglers are spotting plenty of fish in the river with some still struggling to rip a few lips off and others doing really well.
I heard a lone Cicada going for it yesterday when I was heading back home for lunch …. we were saying yesterday that you should still fish with a cicada because if it is the only one, then there may be a lot of competition from the fish to grab it before the others have a chance to get it 😉
With my days off due …. Tues/Wed then the weather is forecast to change to rain !!! Typical!!!! Fingers crossed we get a bit to moisten the ground somewhat …. this will hopefully cool the water temperatures a little and may even entice the first runs of rainbows up the river ( if some haven’t already moved ). Years ago I caught a fresh run hen chokka full of ripe eggs on the 28th February.
Fish reported caught jigging using quite small smelt patters such as the Bleeding Smelt, Mini Grey Ghost. Harling reported as good just north of Omori / Kuratau. Wriggle Tail Smelt, Green orbit and Grey Ghost. The lake fishing should have been really good over the last week or so with this awesome weather.
(Below) We had a bit of excitement in the Metropolis of Turangi this morning. We had an MVA ( Motor Vehicle Accident ). Not sure if these guys were in a hurry to get a morning fix of Caffeine from the Hydro Cafe or were in a hurry to see if the Bottle Store was open !! It was providing plenty of entertainment for those passing by. Everyone was out there with a camera like the Japanese Tourists used to be here in NZ back in the 80’s !!!
(Above & Below) Only one word to describe this …. “Bugger!”
Nissan … on the rocks …. shaken … not stirred !!
This could be the 8th Wonder of the World, or up there with the question of ” How did they build the Pyramids ? “
How could one achieve this ?
