Fine and sunny start to the day with a good frost to greet the curtain openers…. a heavy fog rolled in after sun-up but as of 9:00am this has burnt off. No wind as of 9:00am. The Tongariro is clear and highly fishable today.
Seems to be quite a few anglers wetlining at the moment in the Tongariro. The nymphing should be really good too with the lack of floods that we have had and the abundance of slime holding the insect life … Pheasant Tails and Caddis should do the trick here. Just some cracker Autumn weather.
While the Lake Taupo level is as low as it is, then this is the chance to fish the drop off mouths such as the Delta, Waimarino and Tauranga-Taupo. Some good reports have been coming in from these over the last week. Get out there with your heave and leaves and boobies and enjoy the weather !
(Below) I received these photos thanks to Jens Muller-Buckland who is stuck back in Oz waiting for his jab. He has been to the Snowie’s for a bit of practice for when he gets back over here …. You can see why most Ozzy’s invade NZ to fish for trout 😉
Turangi is a central meeting point for anglers and Jens has quite often caught up with Henry who was on the website the other day.
Many thanks for your message. Just spoke to him on the way to another spot. Looks and sounds like he did well. Nice pic of his fish on your report. Keep it up….. waiting for my “shot” here. Pictures are March 2021 Practice run in the Snowies …..
Cheers and tight lines
(Below) I call these weeny fish …. Willow Leaf Fish as when you hook them you think they are a Willow Leaf that has been floating down the river that you have hooked so you launch it into space to flick the living daylights out of it to get it off only to find the leaf starts wriggling !
(Below) Jens caught this one on a Dry Fly …. the fish maybe small but if that is all you have got and in this day and age of restricted travel then that is what you will have to make do with !
