Fine and sunny start to the morning here in Turangi today. There appears to be a light breeze with the feel of a sharp razor blade of cold just zinging along but probably one of the calmest days so far to fish. The Tongariro is flowing at 36 cumecs and still retains a touch of colour to it but is highly fishable.
Today should be a boomer day to fish in the Tongariro as the fish will be just hoovering up the insect life. It will be interesting to see if any of the pools have changed after this flood. The wading should be much easier as the slime should have been scoured off the rocks. Just get here and do it !!
I just need some time off to coincide with some good weather to be able to get out for a flick! Any volunteers who want to man the shop for me ??
The Kowhai trees are fully in flower now and the Tui birds are starting to amass in gangs to scare off the other smaller birds out of the trees. This provides some entertainment along the river bank over the next few weeks.
The following photos are thanks to two keen young anglers who are making the most of the school holidays. They are Josh Langridge and Riley Kinloch who were fishing the Tongariro River yesterday.

(Below) Riley with a Tongariro Rive Rainbow. Look at that …… didn’t even need waders !
