Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi this morning.  It feels as though the Sun was a bit too cold to get going first thing…. seems to be dark till very late in the morning these days.  Mind you we are only 21-22 days off being the shortest day of the year … garlic planting soon 😉 There was a sugar coating dusting of snow on the Kaimanawa Ranges this morning. No wind as of 9:00am.  The Tongariro is clear and fishable flowing at about 22.8 cumecs.

Neil reports some great access tracks up at the Tauranga-Taupo.  Recently been cleaned up and looking real good for the anglers to beat the feet.

A reminder that as of tomorrow Lake Otmanakau will be closing for the Winter and will re-open again 1st October 2021.  A little birdie also sends out some congratulations to anglers thanking them in their efforts to keep Hornwort out of Lake Otamangakau for the last 15 years. A reminder that anglers should Check, Clean and Dry their fishing equipment and boats between waterways.

(Below) Neil was out and about early this morning to check out the conditions of the river – he said it was low and clear. We did get some rain over the last few days but jus enough to keep the ground moist.  The snow will cool the temperatures of the rivers down and there should have been some fish move into the rivers to run this weekend.

(Above) Looking downstream to the tail of the Hydro Pool at about 8:15am this morning.  Neil reported only one car in the carpark while he was there.  (Below) Looking upstream to the upper part of the Hydro Pool.
