Tongariro River 26.6 Flow (m3/sec)
Weather: 18C, Mostly Cloudy
Over the past couple of days, the Turangi area received some rain, which slightly raised water levels and added a bit of color to the rivers. This has improved fishing conditions by making fish less tippet shy and more likely to bite. Looking ahead, more rain is expected tomorrow, and we anticipate it will have a similar effect on the river.
The Tongariro River continues to fish exceptionally well, with a healthy mix of freshly run rainbow trout and brown trout spread throughout the system. Recommended flies include #14 Hare and Copper, #14 Pheasant Tail Nymphs, and #14 Caddis nymphs. Effective techniques include double nymphing, dry-dropper setups, wetlining, and evening dry fly fishing. If you're willing to stay out late, the evening rise has been excellent, with fish primarily feeding on adult caddis in sizes #16 to #10.
Now is the perfect time to visit Turangi and make the most of these fantastic fishing opportunities!
