Tongariro River Flow: 25m3/sec
Weather: Sunny
There's snow on the mountains and fish all throughout the rivers, life is good in Turangi.
Rosie, Gabriel and I headed to the Tongariro for an afternoon of catchups and fishing fun in the sun. We had an absolute blast soaking up the sunshine while hooking into good fish with wide grins on our faces. We all were rigged up with indicator nymph set ups with similar weighted nymphs, for example: #12 with 4mm tungsten bead as the heavy fly, trailed by a #16/14 beaded or without. In the photo below you will see examples of the flies used, please note that wee wet flies are included as we took advantage of the insect hatch witnessed, we had fish taking wee wet flies towards the end of the drift when the flies start drifting off the bottom. Rosie and Gabriel both had light pink beaded nymphs which worked well, caddis nymphs were also successful. Our HANÁK range of beads, hooks and fluorocarbon have been topped up!
