Friday 17th February 2023

**** We got word today that there will be changes to the Tongariro flow: there is to be maintenance work on the Poutu Intake so no water will be diverted from the Tongariro River into the Poutu Canal. Work is planned from Monday 6 March to Friday 21 April when flows will be 15-25 cumecs higher than normal ****

It was a nice start to the day here in Turangi and it looked nice and calm down at the Tokaanu tailrace with just a slight breeze to ruffle the water, the clouds should have been a give away to what greeted me when I got back to the shop. The wind was quite blustery and has remained that way through the day. Having some sunny periods was most welcome and if the weekend weather forecast can be believed there should be some more sunny days to come. All the streams are fishable and the Tongariro has a steady flow of 31.4cummec.

There have been a few anglers coming into the shop who are finding the local fishing a little tough but thinking outside the square and covering water you usually pass can open up opportunities. The Cicada have been a little quiet but the Trout will still look for them, the Lacemoth have made an appearance which can see the fish become focused on them. I had fish eating these little morsels on Wednesday and even the Mallards were seen picking out of the feed lane. Drift is king when presenting to these fish, challenging yes but so rewarding when it comes together.

We received another top up for our Yeti stand which has rounded out some of the popular sizes in the range, there are some cool new colours to choose from too. Whether it's keeping us warm on those bleak Winter days or cooling us down on a scorching Summer day there is an option that will make a good day even better. Tarn and I will be on deck across the weekend 8.30 - 5.00 Saturday and 9.30 - 3.00 Sunday, drop in and let us help get you kitted out.
