5 Year Flood

It's no surprise that the Tongariro river and surrounding waterways are flooded out due to the constant rainfall received by the headwaters right down to the lower reaches. The Tongariro peaked at 615m3/sec in between 0700-0730hrs this morning, making it the highest on record since the 2018 flood.

We extend our thoughts to those impacted by the floods going on around the country and we hope that everyone stays safe out there.

I stopped at the Tauranga-Taupo river this morning and just like the Tongariro it resembles a rather large chocolate milkshake with chunks of Oreo floating around... 🍫 Sometimes a bit of imagination lightens up the dampener, being the flood! I know a lot of you had plans to come to Turangi this weekend but get here once the river starts to drop as we are expecting the fishing to be very, very good 😎
