Friday 20th October 2023

With the long weekend coming up Turangi is bustling with people that are extremely eager to get out there and make the most of the stunning weather we are having! the suns out and the wind has been nonexistent the last few days and we are forecasted to have the same conditions right through the weekend. The Tongariro had a small peak in flow a few days ago but is currently flowing at 28.1m3/sec and in pristine condition. The Trolling and Harling on Lake Taupo has been producing some very nice fish lately. And we have fully loaded the racks with trolling harling and jigging combos and topped up on Lures, Pat Swift jigging flies, jigging rigs, smokers and sawdust. The Bengal Tiger Tassie devil has long been one of the best producing lures on Lake Taupo and after almost 12 months of them being unavailable they are back! Come and get your hands on some before they're gone.

For the river angler looking to make the most of the long weekend the options are almost endless. We have had some awesome evening rise fishing the last couple of nights with fish happily coming up to a size 12 parachute style dry fly. We have seen the first signs of our summer brown trout moving into the system which have been a bonus bycatch for those targeting the rainbow trout. The fresh Rainbow trout have also continued to enter the river well into spring with a noticeable push of fish coming into the river with the small rise in flow we had a few days ago.

We look forward to seeing everyone in town this weekend enjoying the weather and the fishing. As always, we will be open 8:30 am-5:00pm Saturday and Monday and 9:30am-3:00pm Sunday. Come in for a yarn and the scoop on what's happening around our rivers and lakes.
