It’s been a cracker of a week here in the Central Plateau, with morning fog giving way to warmer days and a light breeze. We’re really starting to feel like summer is just around the corner, with temperatures sitting nicely around 20°C.
As we head into the long weekend, we’ve been busy stocking up the shop and rigging reels for those heading out on the lakes to make the most of this fantastic weather. Our jigging rods have had a massive top-up, with all combos coming ready to go and reels already rigged up.
Today, Pete has been hard at work spooling up harling and trolling reels and rods. We’ve also had a fresh top-up of Tassie Devils, Tobbies, sawdust for the smoker, and much more!

The intel coming through the shop this week has been great, with a huge number of fish being reported in the Tongariro. They’ve been quite tricky to tempt at times, but there have also been plenty brought to the net.
We’re still hearing whispers of gel-eggs being effective in the early morning hours, but we’ve also had more and more reports of fish rising to the surface as the day progresses. Dry-dropper setups have been proving the most effective approach when using a floating line.
For those wet-lining, there’s been more success by lengthening the leader a little and switching to a smaller wet fly.
Now’s the time to lengthen those leaders, lighten up your gear, and get into your wet-wading setup!

My dad (aka Dinny) and sister ventured out to the Big O for their first fish of the season, and with the photos arriving just minutes ago, I can safely say they’ve had a fantastic day on the water! I’m hoping to get out there myself soon and get stuck into some of these beautiful fish.

We look forward to seeing all the fish being landed over the long weekend, with everyone out and about enjoying the sunshine.
Send through your photos of fish, family time, and adventures! We love being able to share what everyone has been up to.
Remember to slap on that sunblock, and tight lines, everyone!
