Weather: Sunny 🌞

Tongariro River Flow: 39.7m3/sec

It's a beautifully calm and sunny day for the Plateau seeing Shop Dad Neil stalking the flats of Lake Taupo while the visibility is clear.

Great reports are coming in from those fishing river mouths in the daytime, using buggers or smelt patterns - there doesn't seem to be the right/wrong streamer pattern going at present, just have a variety to use.

The Tongariro appears to have dropped suddenly but this does not mean maintenance on the Poutu Canal is complete so continue to take extra caution on the river. Those who are searching for the odd rising fish are picking up a few along the edges and through the shallows of side channels, while higher numbers are being plucked from the depths using deep nymphing methods under indicator or via euro nymphing.

At present there are fewer boat anglers on Lake Taupo, but we continue to hear that jigging is going well out deep with dark smelt variants.

We might be getting ahead of ourselves but with the winter fishery on the horizon it might be a good idea to check in on what fly tying products we have in stock before the mad rush! We have good stock of Wapsi Chew Balls, The Bug Shop Glo Bugs Yarn, Mc Fly Foam  and Wapsi Egg YarnÂ
