Today started out overcast this morning with some showers of rain to remind us that Spring is still here. The westerly breeze kept the clouds moving along at a fair clip so it didn’t take long for the sun to appear if only briefly. The Tongariro has been slowly dropping through the day but has stayed in the mid 50cumec range. It still carried some colour but looked good for either a swing session or nymphing. Reports in today were split between brown woolly buggers on sinking lines and a variety of natural nymphs and egg patterns drifted under indicators. The Tauranga Taupo is still very high and will take a couple of days to settle down. The other streams will also be borderline.

It's the end of another week and almost the end of another month already!! they always told me as a young fella that time went quicker the older you got but I had no idea just how fast it seems to fly by now. More reason to get out and do the things that make this life worth the effort.

We are beginning to see more travellers heading here to take advantage of what our little slice of paradise can provide. Even with the weather all over the place lately folk have arrived to walk or cycle the Tongariro river trail while others have been keen to attempt the Tongariro Crossing. Speaking of cyclists there will be quite a few making their way around Lake Taupo this weekend so please keep an eye out when heading this way.

There has been plenty of trolling and harling outfits snapped up lately by boat angler setting up their rigs for the summer season. Our advice is to grab one or two while we have them as they are sure to become a popular purchase. These come rigged ready to go and all the team can show you how to get the best from these outfits.

The jigging is slowly getting better and we are hearing more reports of smelting activity which will get better as the smelt hopefully build in number and the Trout target them looking to put some Christmas condition on. The walls are bursting with all the gear you need to get amongst this type of fishing. It’s a great method that can be easily done by the whole family.

The team will be on deck again in the morning eager to help get you geared up.
