Tongariro River Flow: 27.3m3/sec
Weather: Sunny with a light breeze.
Next week looks like a great week to be out there fishing with rain forecasted for Tuesday morning to Friday morning which will hopefully bring the rivers up & bring more fresh fish into the river.
Local rivers now running low and clear again, Tongy now around the 27 cumecs ,so still has squirts of fish running through most mornings, you can see the early birds catching some nice fresh fish, some really good quality and size coming through now.
It really pays to fine everything down to how you would fish backcountry in the summer, longer, lighter leaders, smaller indicators, if at all, and much smaller flies, I fished the tongy and one of the smaller streams this week and caught mostly on small 14# and 16# ptns , no bling just plain and skinny.
Fished a wet line early one morning, change of light this week with just a very plain small10# olive bugger and had some crackers, not numbers, but quality fish.
Certainly, plenty of fish in the system now you just have to adapt your approach for the conditions on the day.
Good news is we have rain forecast for early next week at this moment in time, it shows rain three or four days from Monday through till Thursday so expect things to liven up again very soon fingers crossed for the rain.
