Saturday 19th November 2022

We've been graced with a small period of sunshine this morning which has kept the local market goers happy however it looks as though the clouds are rolling back in and the rain is about to start once again. The Tongariro is currently sitting at 37.8 m3/sec with a dark tea colour to it. Anglers that have had success over the last day or two have found swinging wet flies to be the most productive method. If Nymphing is your preferred way to fish, we would suggest using large stonefly pattern such as the Category 3 101 paired with worm fly of some description in order to stand out in the coloured water. Fish the slower edge water and the fish will come!

The lake edge activity is starting to pick up and with this rain putting extra flow in the smaller streams that enter Lake Taupo this weekend could be a great time to spend a couple evenings around the lake. If you plan to do so it would be highly advised to get your hands on a stripping basket or pellet, having one of these in your kit can save a lot of headaches while wading around the lake edge by keeping your line organised ,tangle free and elevated out of the water making it easier to shoot line and cover distance. The Ahrex Flexi-Stripper is a favourite amongst the staff here at Sporting Life with a low profile and light weight design it is the ultimate stream mouth accessory. Check them out instore or online HERE.

It's a great time to be located in Turangi with an almost unlimited number of options coming into this time of year. Whether you want to fish streamers on the lake edge, swing wet flies in the river or dry fly in the evening it is all happening right now so be sure to swing by and be a part of it.
