Tongariro River Flow: 33.4m3/sec

Weather: Rain 🚿

The Lake edge fishing has really picked up on Lake Taupo. As the weather has warmed up the fish have pushed into the cool water of the stream mouths to seek relief from the warm shallows and chase hordes of smelt. The Rio Aqualux Intermediate line and Rio Fathom S6 have been our lines of choice depending on the depth of water we are fishing. A stripping basket is another crucial bit of kit for this style of fishing as you can often find yourself in waist deep water and line management can become difficult. The Ahrex Flexi Stripper is an awesome light weight stripping basket that is far more manageable than other stripping basket alternatives and is our preferred option.
The Tongariro brown trout reports just keep on rolling in and lucky for us we even received a photo to share with you all.
Mike called into the shop and was stoked to tell us about the brown he caught during an early morning outing with a hare & copper under a dry. He previously had some tough days fishing but after talking to "The Priest" aka Neil he got out there and caught good number of bows including this lovely brown.
