Saturday 29th October

Once again, the clouds are looming in Turangi and the forecast suggest we are due for a decent dumping of rain in the next 24 hours. We have had a couple quiet days in the shop lately which found me spending a large amount of time gazing at our rod rack in store and yesterday I caved in and did a little retail therapy. With tales of the evening rise starting to pick up I decided it was time to upgrade my 5 weight outfit and fell on the Winston Rods Air2. As you'd expect I was chomping at the bit to go out and give it a waggle as soon as the doors closed at the shop, so after putting on the waders in a rather swift fashion we were on the river in no time. My purchase was soon justified with a warhorse of a brown trout on the very first cast...... hopefully the start of a lucky season with this rod. Connor and I were soon joined by another warhorse in the form of Shop Dad - Neil. Connor and I had a great time at the head of the pool catching a few hungry rainbows on the Category 3 Tricky Situation and Orange Crush dry flies while Neil brought plenty of fish to hand skating the Sporting Caddis aka 'The Black Death' across the surface in the lower portion of the pool.

The three of us are instore today reminiscing on the night that was so come in and say G'day and pick our brains on dry fly fishing so you can experience moments like this, the action will only get better from here on out.
