It has been nice to get a spell of perfectly fine weather over the weekend here in Turangi. The Tongariro is flowing clear and currently sitting at 30.3m3/sec with reports of fish still coming up to cicada patterns, as well as a handful of fish starting to tune into the lace wing moth otherwise known as passion vine hoppers. We have filled a couple spots in our fly table with our preferred imitations for these fussy eaters, it would certainly pay to have a few of these in your box if you plan on visiting the central plateau in the next month or so.
With the wind dropping over the weekend, it has finally allowed the lake anglers some much needed time on the water. Jigging has been very productive even in depths up to 50m, with large numbers of fish being caught. Yellow Lady, Jack Sprat and Grey Ghost seem to be the standout players for the jiggers whilst Tassie Devils in Pink Panther and Aussie colour patterns have been top producers for those choosing to troll or harl.
Neil and I have been on deck at the shop over the weekend and are looking forward to enjoying some sunshine after our 3pm Sunday knock off, Hopefully the fish are looking for a tasty afternoon snack!
