Sunday 19th March 2023

Once again, it is another overcast day here in Turangi. The heavy rain we received a couple nights ago had pushed the Tongariro river level up a decent amount, spiking at roughly 165m3/sec early yesterday morning. The Tongariro is now on a steady climb down, currently sitting at 60.7m3/sec which is well and truly fishable. Customers have come in with reports of success both fishing natural nymphs and larger streamer patterns.

The stream mouth fishing certainly kept anglers occupied while the rivers were high and muddy, both browns and rainbows have been frequenting these areas both during day and night.

Jigging has been productive for the boat anglers with the larger concentrations of fish being around the 40–50 meter mark from most reports we have received. Both the famed Pat Swift and new Black Magic jig rigs have proven deadly over the last couple of weeks, click the links above to check them out.
