The weekend has been rocking on with heaps of people here in Turangi and the shop has very busy and keeping the crew on their toes. It's been cold first thing in the mornings and the breeze that picked up today had some light drizzle but the sun was pleasant when it made an appearance.
The Tongariro has dropped back to 20.7cumec and will be very fishable during the coming week, the forecast looks favourable too. There has been fish landed right through the Tongariro with all methods getting some reaction, some of the Rainbows have been in very good order and testing knots. A mix of natural nymphs and egg patterns have still been popular. Swinging a woolly bugger or rabbit fly on the spey and sinking lines will definitely get a wriggle in your rod and can account for some of the better silver Rainbows at this time of year.
Lake Taupo has slowed for the boaties as the mature fish start to shift locations and think about running up the various spawning streams. Some of the reports coming in from the mouths of these waterways has been encouraging and a good indicator of what's still to come as we get closer to Winter. White Booby flys and heave n leave egg patterns have been flying out the door.
