☔ A Day for Fly Tying ☔
Once again, the Tongariro is in flood currently flowing at 224 m3/sec (was in the 30's yesterday) and appears to be dropping now, so keep an eye on the flow if you're planning a trip over. Tongariro at Turangi river flow | Genesis NZ (genesisenergy.co.nz)
There are a few anglers out there fishing the Tongariro this morning, primarily nymphing or swinging streamers through the edges where fish will be concentrated. Keep your fly boxes well stocked as you should expect to lose a few amongst the willow saplings where the fish will be sitting, so go for the lighter option and use something bright. Looking outside the sky appears to be clearing but we can't make any promises it will remain that way!
If you're looking for other options, the Hinemaiaia and Waitahanui should be clearer.
It should be interesting to see how the river fishes once the river drops a bit more as we expect more fresh fish to come through.
