Weather: 16°C Mostly overcast today with periods of rain.
Tongariro River Flow: 26 cumecs (m3)
The slightly cooler weather has hit Turangi in the past few days and will continue through the Christmas period with some sunny days in-between. This has seen our daytime surface water activity decreasing but with evening rises still in full swing in the evenings on dusk in the shallower areas. There are still sporadic fish rising in shallower water and in riffles.

River and stream mouth fishing is slow to start with the water temperatures remaining quite cool but this will soon change when the hot weather arrives once again. Fish are still smelting in the rips and there is still a great chance of catching a hungry rainbow on the lake edge!

Jigging has continued to be productive at the 20 - 25m mark for most, with small and skinny smelt patterns continuing to provide best results.
The backcountry has been productive for those of us who have been fortunate enough to get out there and plenty of reports of great conditioned fish. Fishing dry droppers, with a small dry fly to start the day, followed by small terrestrials and the odd cicada eat for those brave enough to put one on!

The local lakes have been fishing well, but are still quite high with the water still noticeably cool, so damsel and top water action has been limited but adults are being seen in good numbers which is a great sign for things around the corner. Gary has been targeting the deeper water with an indicator rig and a sinking line pulling streamers, for bigger fish in the lakes.

We thank all of you for your continued support over the past year and are excited to see all our local holiday makers again over the Christmas and new years as the baches fill up and the lake playground is in full swing!
