Tongariro River Flow: 41.6m3/sec

Weather: Mostly Cloudy/Rain

Yesterday evening the heavens opened up and rain came down bringing the Tongariro river flow up slightly and giving it a good colour. Neil shot out to take photos of the river from the Major Jones swing bridge while I went to Red Hut to do the same, there was a group of kayakers getting organised and making the most of the flow. Once again don't be put off by the kayakers/rafters as fish often return and continue to feed.

A slight discolouration to the river, but the edges remain clear to view. Wetlining would be our chosen method followed by dry dropper.

Tarn and I got out for an hour after work before meeting up with the crew to do the weekly quiz at the tavern. I sight fished to trout sitting in front or behind boulders, and despite not noticing any rise a couple of bows took Umpqua's Irresistible Adams which is a variant of the original but with a clipped deer hair body, It's perfect for fishing pocket water and slow currents.
