Tongariro River Flow: 57.8m3/sec

Weather: Sunny 🌞

We received an update from Genesis Energy who have been keeping us informed about the maintenance on the Poutu canal.

"Unfortunately, we need to notify that the works at Poutū Intake have been extended again.

We are now expecting work to finish and flows in the Tongariro downstream of Poutū Intake to return to their usual levels on Tuesday 2 May"

Although the river will remain around the 50 cumec mark for a few more days, that doesn't mean the river isn't fishable. We continue to receive more reports of fresh rainbows coming through, as well as the odd brown trout which equals two rainbow trout to some 😀

Olive and brown wooly buggers have been working a treat, with fish taking them with a bead or without. And as for nymphing a variety of flies have been working for the individual angler, meaning whatever appeals or whatever you use as a confidence pattern has been working. Globugs are now a common theme which doesn't come as a surprise as we dive into winter.

We have just received a substantial restock of fly tying materials and will soon get that loaded online and on the wall of our shop!
