Thursday 4th June 2026

Weather: 10.8°C Cloudy periods with showers developing late morning, which may become heavy. Northerly winds developing through the morning.

River Flow: 30.6 cumecs (m³/s)

Following Tuesday evening's spike, the river rose to around 107 cumecs before dropping away quickly as the dams were able to release some of the pressure that had built up. The river remained heavily coloured for much of yesterday but cleared rapidly throughout the day.

I checked the river conditions this morning, and it was looking absolutely perfect. There's a great amount of colour in the water, and the flow is sitting at 30.6 cumecs. Just about ideal for fishing.

Nat gave me a call this morning just as he was landing yet another fish. By that stage, he'd already landed 11 and was planning to take five home for a tangi. That's a pretty good report to receive first thing in the morning!

It's great to hear that anglers are finding success and, even better, that the fish being landed are in such good condition.

The rain has returned after a break this morning, and I've been keeping an eye on the river to see if there's been any rise in the flow. So far, it's holding nicely at around 30 cumecs.

The river has cleared remarkably quickly, with the colour dropping out much faster than expected. Conditions are still looking very good at this stage.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast is still showing the heaviest rain arriving tomorrow, with showers continuing into Saturday. This should help encourage another push of those bigger, well-conditioned fish into the river.

As we move into next week, temperatures are expected to drop again, particularly overnight, as the rain eases off for a while. That means the frosts will likely make a return, and it'll be time to get the fire going in the evenings once more.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the weekend shapes up!

Tight lines, everyone!
