The rain has returned to town but it hasn't stopped the holiday makers from doing their thing which is great to see! a few boat anglers out on Lake Taupo this morning, as well as few wakeboarders.
The Tongariro remains under 30m3/sec so there's no reason to stay away from fishing the big river today. A few browns are being caught at present which brings a big smile to those who are seeking them, and lately they're often caught on small natural nymphs or a dry fly. Today we would be inclined to fish with streamers in hope of getting one of the larger models which are definitely out there. One of the Turangi locals has been getting smashed by a few, but he picked up a spool of RIO Powerflex Plus Tippet in 1x/15lb so it's only a matter of time before he brings one to the net!
Jess, Tarn and I are in store today, so come on in for a chat about what's happening in the region. Tarn is busy putting jig rigs together as they are a top seller at present, and there's been some solid fish full of koura amongst the recovering rainbows out there. Folks stationed along the Western bays have been reporting strong winds making a difficult or impossible launch, so have been using the ramps in Tokaanu or Motuoapa.
