Thursday 8Th Of May

Weather: Cloudy, with showers from afternoon, possibly heavy this evening. Northerlies developing late morning.

Tongariro Flow: 23.9(m3/sec)

With the temps dropping and some rain coming, we can expect to see a new fresh run of fish in the systems within the next few days. On recent days, the fish have been quite receptive towards glo-bug or slushy patterns. Specifically, the Category 3 Soft Egg, or the Egg-stacy in shrimp pink. I've had equal success with the OTB Hare & Copper from Cat3 in most sizes.

We have topped up with all of these and the fly trays are full. So come and have a look. We also have had a bunch of Slushy material show up instore. Our friend Pat Swift also stopped in and dropped off a bunch of Heave & leave/ Booby flies, in all sorts of variations.

William, with a silver bullet out of the TT, one of the many landed that day. Taken on a slushy fly.

It looks like we have a decent amount of rain coming from this evening, and most of tomorrow. Hopefully this brings another decent spike on the charts and brings up some of the many fish currently holding at all the river mouths. Winter is shaping up nicely so far.

The Backcountry is still fishing very well, with huge numbers of browns moving through. We found them all grouping up and getting ready for their spawning. Many of the fish hitting around the 8IB region, which has made for some extremely fun sight fishing.

Let see how the weather goes over the next day or 2, after that we have a good dry spell, with a sunny weekend forecast. Send us in your reports and let us know how you get on.

Tight Lines,
