Tongariro River Flow 25.8m3/sec
Weather: Sunny and Windy
It's another beautiful sunny day in Turangi although the wind is undeniably strong so take caution if you are game enough to head out on the Tongariro today! There are always spots which can offer some shelter from the wind and it might be worthwhile to give the other streams a go, such as the Hinemaiaia.
Over the last couple of days I had the privilege of guiding Brad from California who got amongst the challenging yet rewarding fishing the waters have to offer, while soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the autumnal scenery surrounding. Dead drifts followed by the swing at the end of the drift worked a real treat! Mending while fishing appropriate depth with various weighted natural nymphs were essential (caddis, hare and copper, soft hackle varieties). Good to see sporadic mayfly hatches during the day, hence the soft hackle taking center stage especially yesterday afternoon.
