Tongariro River Flow: 26.6m3/sec
Fish numbers in the Tongariro continue to grow following the short bouts of rain we've had the last couple weeks. Some great condition fish have been found in small pods and are tending to be in the deeper slower pockets, particularly in those parts of the river that are harder to access. Yesterday I found success on a reasonably heavy pink or silver beaded nymph on a long dropper beneath an indicator.
Lake fishing reports have showed large numbers of fish accumulating out from the river mouths with big groups of fish visible on the sounder in varying depths between 30m and 60m. A lot of these fish have had very developed roe which poses good prospects for a big first run of fish given the next big dump of rain!
With many good sized fish around and a promising winter season ahead size wise, a McLeans Weigh Net is a necessary bit of kit to have in the arsenal. Tired of catching big fish by yourself and having no proof? Not to worry, simply snap a pic of the scale and it won't be disputable! This net boasts a fine rubber mesh that is soft on fish and comes in a variety of colours.
