Tuesday 24th January 2023

It's been an overcast and humid day in Turangi with patches of sun peering through. The Tongariro is currently flowing at 24.1 m3/sec and the cicadas are still screaming all along the riverbank! The usual suspects (Carty's Camo Cicada and the Category 3 Woomfah in black) have proven far too tempting for many fish in the shallow riffles and edges of the Tongariro. The Brown Trout have shown up in good numbers and although they can be challenging adversaries some cracking fish have graced the nets of those willing to put in the time.

The Lake fishing has continued to fire with the Tequila Sunrise Tassie Devil and Yellow Lady fly being popular choices for trolling and harling. The Jigging seems to be picking up and we've had trouble keeping up with demand of our ever-popular jig rigs but luckily our friends from Black Magic Tackle have just released a range of new rigs known as the Trout Terror, tied with high quality fluorocarbon, great selection of flies and complete with a lumo sinker they certainly live up to their name!!😱 We ordered a fair swag of them, but they are already flying out the door so get in quick and grab some or check them out online HERE.

The weather looks as though it's going to hold out for the next few days, and I imagine both fishing on the lake and river will be red hot. Neil, Jess and I have been instore the last couple days and have been busy putting in orders for lures, smokers and rod and reel combos hopefully due to arrive before Auckland anniversary weekend for you all to enjoy. We'll be sure to let you know when they arrive.
