The first week of November is here, and we're seeing another shift in the weather. Today has been grey and mild, with some rain expected to move through this week and into the weekend. Daytime highs are forecast to sit around 20°C, with overnight lows of approximately 10°C. These temperatures are expected to remain fairly consistent throughout the week.
The river has crept even lower than we've seen over the past couple of months, but we're hopeful the incoming rain will give it a much-needed top-up and, fingers crossed, get a few more browns on the move!

Reports coming through the shop have been encouraging, with plenty of fish rising and taking dries throughout the day. There are huge numbers of fish in the Tongariro at the moment, and many anglers are reporting good numbers coming to the net. The more humid conditions forecast for the coming days should also help spark an increase in insect activity and hatches.

I managed to sneak out for a couple of hours with my partner on Sunday and hooked into two lovely, well-conditioned rainbows. Both took a small Pheasant Tail fished beneath a dry-dropper setup. Unfortunately, despite putting up a great fight, I managed to lose both of them before getting them to the net! It was a beautiful day to be out on the water, and there were plenty of other anglers enjoying the conditions. I also spotted quite a few fish being landed along the way.
I'll be keeping a close eye on the weather and how it affects river conditions, so stay tuned for further updates. Hopefully, I'll also manage to squeeze in an after-work fish this week. With the sun setting later and later, there's a little more daylight for all of us to enjoy those evening sessions!
Tight lines, everyone!
