A big thank you to Her Majesty for the long weekend, it was well enjoyed by a lot of people as seen on the river with some very busy car parks! While the numbers of fish weren't as high as we were expecting after the fresh the quality of the fish was absolutely sublime with some of the best looking rainbows I have ever seen coming out of the Tongariro - there was a lot of reels getting their drags thrashed as the fish went berserk through the pools, very exhilarating stuff! Both nymphing and wetlining did the damage, and with the current colour of the river you couldn't ask for better looking swinging water so get out there and get amongst it!
I headed out with Graeme and his kids for some spey casting tuition and they did a fantastic job, with casting practice getting interrupted on the very last cast of the day with this silver rocket! If its a technique you are interested in having a go at get in touch with the shop and we can get you sorted.
I headed out with AB, Johnny and Tarn for a sniff with the Guideline ULS heads and trout spey gear and had a ball swinging streamers through the upper river, heavy tippet certainly came in handy in the fast current. 10lb will be the minimum for the next few months!
Looking ahead at the long range forecast it appears we are due for wet weather all week so it should keep the river in beautiful condition as long as we don't get too much - we will keep you updated as to how it is looking. The delta had some red hot action over the weekend so expect to see big rainbows continuing to push through, we will certainly be out there chasing them down so we'll see you out there!
