Tongariro River Flow: 51.4m3/sec
Weather: Party Sunny

We are fortunate to have a break from the rain! The Tongariro is looking fantastic today following on from reaching 80m3/sec at its peak flow recorded yesterday. Claudio and I joined Siobhan, Niamh, and Robbie who hit the town for the long weekend, and we had a blast working the murky water used a mix of techniques.
Large olive wooly buggers produced the best results yesterday while the river was rising and turning coffee coloured, Siobhan who is in the featured image had an absolute ball with her consistent hits working through the deeper pools.
For Robbie and Niamh, it was a weekend of firsts as they both hooked and landed their first Tongariro river trout!
Cicadas are still going, so they continued to produce for us in the murky water when used in the shallows and along the edges. We were able to check the stomach contents of one fish and it was no surprise to find cicadas and amongst it was the smallest of horned caddis, about size 18/16.
