Sunday 14th September 2025
Weather: Windy with a few rain showers
River Flow: 29.3 cumecs (m³/s)

The wind’s been giving a few people a hard time today, with some strong, chilly gusts blowing through. Still, that shouldn't stop you from getting out there and having a crack! Sam’s been out battling the breeze and sent in a report from the front lines. You can find this on our facebook page - Sporting Life Turangi

The week’s been much the same—plenty of wind with the odd bit of rain. That said, fish are still being caught, which is always good news. Last night’s rain gave the river a small lift—not quite what we were hoping for, but we’ll take it.
Looking ahead, there’s more rain forecast from Tuesday through Thursday, which should set things up nicely for the weekend. Fingers crossed it’s enough to give the river a bit more flow and add some colour.

Neil has also been out on the water catching some very nice fish!

We’ll be restocking flies early this week—from natural nymphs right through to woolly buggers—so you’ll be covered no matter what the fish are in the mood for.
With spring settling in, we’re seeing a mix of spent fish and fresh ones moving through. There are still some freshies about, so it’s worth working through your fly box and mixing things up until you find what’s working. Keep moving, too—there are still good pods of fish sitting in numbers and heading upriver.

Quick word on etiquette:
The rivers are pretty busy at the moment, which is awesome to see. Just a reminder—if you want to jump into a pool where someone’s already fishing, have a quick word first. It keeps things friendly and enjoyable for everyone. At the end of the day, we’re all out there for the same reason: to have a good time and (hopefully) hook a few fish.

On a lighter note—Pete's wife Sherrie found some awesome cookie cutters, and I'm definitely got them on my shopping list! Check out the photo—Pete’s double-hooked in more ways than one!

A few shots from earlier in the week—Hamish’s clients were out on a stunning day and had a cracker of a session.

As always, fishy photos, river shots, or snaps of people out and about are very much appreciated. If you’re happy to share, flick them through to us at sport.life@xtra.co.nz
Tight Lines everyone!
