Tongariro River Flow: 35.5(m3/sec)

Weather: Fine apart from evening cloud. Southeasterlies dying out this morning.

It's time to make the trip to Turangi. The river has dropped beautifully since our 720cumec river spike a few days ago. With many new fish entering the rivers. I was down at the lower Reed Pool this morning catching up with anglers and checking things out. Then ran into Rob (A friend of the shop) who had already landed about 4 fish within 20 minutes and was soon hooked up once I arrived. The river was looking perfect, a slight bit of colour, and a great flow of 36cumecs. Fish were responding well to Glo-Bugs and caddis patterns like the Gummers Carpet Caddis BTB.

Photo taken from the Reed Pool at 36cumec this morning.

Theresa sent through this photo of all the caddis on the riverbank. Fish have been gorging themselves on these, and the anglers on the river have been reporting a lot of success on Caddis flies.

Rob working through the Jones pool, which has changed a fair bit. But is in excellent shape.

A few from the track down to the Reed, facing up in to log pool. You can see the bank has pretty much gone all the way up to the tree line.

The rivers closer to Taupo, like the Hinemaiaia and Waitahanui have been fishing excellently. Guiding out there recently, anglers were catching many fish in the 5-7IB region and finding good pods of fresh fish.

All the rivers should be fishing well for a while, and in a couple weeks, we can expect another fresh and even more fish in the system.

Tight Lines everyone,

stay safe when wading and remember the changes to the river has most likely changed a lot of the crossings.

Cheers,
